The accidental tongue, lip, or cheek bite is bound to happen here and there, even if it is annoying and painful. However, if bleeding continues for a long period of time, or becomes more excessive, it becomes a more severe issue and emergency care is recommended, whether it be at your dentist or emergency room.

If you suspect you have a broken jaw, apply a cold compress to the face and go to the emergency room immediately.
