THE DOCTOR
Dr. James Hicks is from the Atlanta area, but was blessed to find his way to the Upstate in 2012. Dr. Hicks has been practicing dentistry for over 10 years and is proud to call Upstate South Carolina home.
Dr. Hicks returned to school after a previous career and obtained a DMD degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of
Dentistry in 2012. In 2022 Dr. Hicks joined SC Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry as the sole provider of general, surgical and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Hicks has extensive experience serving patients of all ages and backgrounds, with a focus on problem solving.

respect. He is committed to building long term relationships and ensuring all patients a beneficial experience on their oral health journey. Dr. Hicks believes all treatment starts with a thorough examination, and a treatment plan with options for the patient.
Dr. Hicks enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and being an active member of Covenant United Methodist Church. He also enjoys gardening, College football, and classic cars from the sixties and seventies.
Dr. Hicks is an active member of the South Carolina Dental Association.

Carla Talley, Office Manager
Carla Talley is our amazing office manager. If you need to schedule an appointment, get help with your dental insurance, have a question or just want to chat, Carla always makes herself available for our patients! She is praise for her honesty with patients and her constant efforts to make sure everyone is taken care of. Despite her vast knowledge of dentistry, Carla has not always been in the dental field. Carla Talley began her career in manufacturing with (Kendall) Covidien, in Seneca in 1990 where she gained experience in coordinating, planning and supporting daily operational and administrative functions to excel in an Office/Administrative Assistant role. Upon the plant closure in 2015, she went back to school and earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Tri-County Technical College. With a new degree under her belt, nearly 20 years of administrative management experience and a keen attention to detail, Carla jumped into the dental field and has not looked back!
Carla and her husband, Kevin, enjoy doing everything together from gardening to fishing, and supporting their two sons’ Kory and Connor with their football.
Bethany James, RDH, Dental Hygienist
Bethany James has been in the dental field for over 15 years. Bethany is praised for her exceptional skill as well as her compassionate way of putting patients at ease, including those who have avoided dental visits for years. She earned her Dental Assisting Certification from Tri-County Technical College and continued her dental education earning an Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene from Greenville Technical College.
In her spare time she enjoys gardening, reading, and watching her son, Kaden’s, football and basketball games.
Wendy Matheson, Dental Assistant
Wendy Matheson has been in dentistry for over 15 years. Wendy is the right hand to Dr. Hicks. She is praised for her easy going, compassionate way in which she helps patients during dental treatment. She earned her Dental Assisting Certification from Tri-County Technical College in 2004 and has been working in dentistry ever since.
Wendy enjoys spending time with her son, Gavin, and all outdoor activities, including gardening, hiking, spending time on the river, and helping with the family pool business.
